The cosmetic and personal care industry is increasingly pursuing natural, safe, and functional ingredients to meet consumers’ demand for high-quality products. Diatomaceous earth powder (diatomite powder), as a natural mineral material with excellent adsorption capacity and gentle exfoliating properties, has become a popular additive in skin care and hair care products. It should be emphasized that our diatomaceous earth powder for cosmetic use is only used in external skin care and hair care products ,such as facial cleansers, body scrubs, and shampoos

In skin care products, diatomaceous earth powder is mainly used as an absorbent and exfoliant. The unique porous structure of diatomaceous earth powder is the key to its excellent absorption performance. Microscopic analysis reveals that each gram of our diatomaceous earth powder has a surface area equivalent to several football fields, formed by countless tiny holes left behind by fossilized diatoms. In oil-control facial cleansers and masks, this porous structure can effectively absorb excess oil and sebum on the skin surface and in pores. Compared with synthetic absorbents (such as silica gel), diatomaceous earth powder has better adsorption capacity and is more natural and skin-friendly.

Tests conducted in an independent third-party laboratory show that facial cleansers containing 5-8% diatomaceous earth powder can absorb 2-3 times more oil than ordinary facial cleansers, and can deeply clean pores, reducing the formation of blackheads and acne. A skin care brand in South Korea launched an oil-control facial mask with diatomaceous earth powder as the main functional ingredient. After 4 weeks of use by 100 volunteers with oily skin, 85% of the volunteers reported that their skin oil secretion was significantly reduced, and the number of blackheads and acne was reduced by 30-50%. Follow-up skin biopsies also showed a 20% decrease in sebum gland activity in the treated areas, demonstrating the long-term efficacy of diatomaceous earth powder in oil control.

As an exfoliant, diatomaceous earth powder has gentle and effective characteristics. The irregular shape of its particles (with fine edges and corners) can remove dead skin cells on the skin surface through physical friction, but its hardness is lower than that of synthetic exfoliants (such as polyethylene beads), so it will not scratch the skin. To better understand its exfoliating mechanism, we can refer to the Mohs hardness scale, where diatomaceous earth powder has a hardness of 1 – 2, similar to talc, making it suitable for daily use on sensitive skin. In body scrubs and facial scrubs, adding 10-15% diatomaceous earth powder (particle size 200-500 mesh) can achieve a good exfoliating effect. After use, the skin becomes smooth and delicate, and the absorption of subsequent skin care products (such as lotions and essences) is improved by 20-30%. Compared with natural exfoliants such as walnut shells and apricot kernels, diatomaceous earth powder has a more uniform particle size distribution, avoiding the problem of uneven exfoliation caused by large particle size differences. We have also developed a new grading technology that can further refine the particle size distribution, ensuring a more consistent exfoliation experience for consumers.

In hair care products, such as oil-control shampoos and dry shampoos, diatomaceous earth powder can play a role in absorbing oil and refreshing the scalp. Oil-control shampoos containing 3-5% diatomaceous earth powder can absorb excess oil on the scalp and hair, keeping the hair clean and refreshing for a longer time. Dry shampoos, which are used to clean hair without water, often use diatomaceous earth powder as the main absorbent. The diatomaceous earth powder in dry shampoos can quickly absorb the oil and dirt on the hair, and the fine particles can be easily brushed off without leaving white residues. A hair care brand in Europe launched a dry shampoo with diatomaceous earth powder as the core ingredient. According to market feedback, the product can keep the hair clean for 24-48 hours after use, and the user satisfaction rate is as high as 90%. Further consumer surveys also showed that 85% of users preferred the natural fragrance of diatomaceous earth powder in dry shampoos compared to synthetic fragrances used in traditional products.

Our diatomaceous earth powder for cosmetic and personal care products has strict quality control to ensure safety and mildness. The product is produced using high-purity diatomite ore mined from specific regions known for their superior ore quality. We have established long-term partnerships with local mining companies to ensure a stable supply of high-quality raw materials. Through multi-step purification processes (such as gravity separation, flotation, and acid leaching) to remove impurities such as heavy metals and microorganisms. The heavy metal content of the product is strictly controlled: lead ≤0.0001%, arsenic ≤0.0001%, mercury ≤0.00001%, which meets the requirements of the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) and the European Union Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009. The product is also sterilized by high-temperature calcination (1000-1200°C) to ensure that the total number of bacteria is ≤100 CFU/g and the number of mold and yeast is ≤10 CFU/g, avoiding skin infections caused by microorganisms. In addition, we have implemented a strict traceability system, where each batch of products can be traced back to the specific mining area, production date, and processing steps, providing customers with complete transparency and confidence in our products.

In terms of product specifications, we provide diatomaceous earth powder with different particle sizes and whiteness to meet the needs of different cosmetic products. For facial cleansers and masks, we provide fine-grained diatomite powder (500-1000 mesh) with high whiteness (≥90), ensuring that the product has a smooth texture and good color; for body scrubs and dry shampoos, we provide medium-grained diatomite powder (200-500 mesh) to balance exfoliating effect and skin mildness. We can also modify the surface of diatomaceous earth powder (such as silane modification) to improve its compatibility with cosmetic oils and surfactants, ensuring that the powder can be evenly dispersed in the product without agglomeration. Our R & D team is constantly exploring new modification methods, such as using natural polymers for surface modification, which not only improves product performance but also meets the growing demand for natural and sustainable ingredients in the cosmetic industry.

To ensure the safety and efficacy of the product, we conduct a series of tests, including skin irritation tests (using the closed patch test method), eye irritation tests, and adsorption capacity tests. The skin irritation test shows that our diatomaceous earth powder has no irritation to normal skin, and the irritation index is 0, which is suitable for sensitive skin. We have also conducted long-term safety studies on volunteers with different skin types, and the results show that continuous use of products containing our diatomaceous earth powder for 6 months did not cause any adverse skin reactions. The adsorption capacity test (using sebum simulant) shows that the oil absorption rate of the product is ≥150%, which can meet the oil-control needs of cosmetic products. We also provide a full set of quality inspection reports for customers, including raw material inspection reports, production process records, and finished product testing reports, to help customers meet the regulatory requirements of various countries and regions. In addition, we cooperate with international authoritative testing institutions to regularly review and update our testing methods and standards, ensuring that our products always meet the latest international quality requirements.

In customer service, we provide technical support for the application of diatomaceous earth powder in cosmetic products.
