Sodium bentonite is divided according to the type and content of exchangeable cations between layers of montmorillonite: the one with alkalinity coefficient greater than or equal to 1 is sodium bentonite, and the one with alkalinity coefficient less than 1 is calcium bentonite.

The physical and chemical properties and technological properties of Na bentonite are superior to that of Ca bentonite. It is mainly manifested in: slow water absorption, high water absorption and expansion ratio; high cation exchange capacity; good dispersion in water medium, high colloidal price; good thixotropy, viscosity, lubricity, pH value; good thermal stability; high plasticity and strong adhesion; high hot wet tensile strength and dry pressure strength. Therefore, the use value and economic value of sodium bentonite are higher. The physical and chemical properties of artificial sodium bentonite depend not only on the type and content of montmorillonite, but also on the method and degree of artificial sodium.

Application
1. In drilling well, the drilling mud suspension with high fluidity and thixotropy is arranged.
