Tourmaline is the general name of tourmaline group minerals. Its chemical composition is relatively complex. It is a ring structure silicate mineral characterized by boron containing aluminum, sodium, iron, magnesium and lithium. The hardness of tourmaline is usually 7-7.5, and its density is slightly different with different types. See the table below for details. Tourmaline is also known as tourmaline, tourmaline, etc.

Tourmaline has unique properties such as piezoelectricity, pyroelectricity, far-infrared radiation and negative ion release. It can be compounded with other materials by physical or chemical methods to produce a variety of functional materials, which are used in environmental protection, electronics, medicine, chemical industry, light industry, building materials and other fields.

Tourmaline’s own characteristics

Spontaneous polarity
When the temperature and pressure of tourmaline crystal change, the relative displacement between the charged particles in the crystal occurs, the positive and negative charge centers separate, and the total electric moment of the crystal changes, resulting in the generation of polarized charge. The spontaneous polarization effect of tourmaline shows that there is an electrostatic field with the c axis as the two poles around the tourmaline crystal. When the crystal size of tourmaline is very small, the effect of tourmaline particles is equivalent to an electric dipole. Due to the mutual cancellation of positive and negative charges, the electric field intensity is the largest in the direction parallel to the c axis. The spontaneous polarization effect of tourmaline is permanent, which is closely related to its structure and composition.

Piezoelectric, thermoelectric effect
Tourmaline has piezoelectricity effect and thermoelectricity effect at the same time. When the surrounding environment changes, the temperature or pressure changes, the crystal bond in the tourmaline lattice is twisted, and the electron is transferred, so that one end of tourmaline is positively charged and the other end is negatively charged. The opposite electrode is defined as C + and C -. C + is the positive pole compressed along the c-axis during cooling or pressurization, and C – is the negative pole expanded along the c-axis during heating or decompression.

Tourmaline rough
The single crystal or micro crystal directly mined from the mine agglomerates into a certain volume of massive tourmaline.
